Removal Options in Jackson WY: Consignment, Donation, and Recycling

Before a Jackson Hole move is the right time to deal with what you are not taking with you.. Items that have sat in the garage for two years, furniture that does not fit the new place, appliances you are not bringing along. Getting ahead of this before moving day makes the actual move cleaner, faster, and cheaper: fewer items to move means a smaller load and lower cost.

Jackson Hole has specific local options for consignment, donation, recycling, and disposal. This post covers what is available, how each option works, and the practical details you need before you go.

Consignment Stores

Home Again is Jackson Hole’s largest furniture showroom and takes upscale consignment alongside its new inventory. If you have quality furniture or home decor pieces in good condition that you are not moving, consigning them is worth considering. Items sell at a price agreed with the store, and you receive a percentage of the sale when they sell.

Consignment takes longer than donating: the item needs to sell before you receive anything. But for high-quality pieces, the return is meaningfully better than donation.

Donation

The Teton Habitat ReStore accepts donations of gently used furniture, appliances, fixtures, and building materials. All donated items are sold at 30 to 60 percent below retail, with proceeds supporting Habitat for Humanity’s affordable housing work in Teton County.

This is a good destination for appliances, cabinetry, and building supplies from a renovation, as well as standard household furniture. Items must be in sellable condition: working order, no rips, stains, dents, odours, or missing parts.

The ReStore offers free pickup on Wednesdays and Fridays, limited to the Jackson area, with reservations required. All donations are tax deductible and a receipt is available on request.

Browse N Buy is a charity shop at 139 N Cache Street in Jackson, run as a mission of St John’s Episcopal Church. They accept clothing, household items, furniture, and home goods. Proceeds fund community assistance programmes in the valley.

Call ahead before loading a truck with donations to confirm current capacity and what they are accepting. Drop-off conditions change depending on how full the store is.

Recycling

Teton County Recycling Centre

The Teton County Recycling Centre is located at 3270 S Adams Canyon Road, Jackson, and is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The centre accepts separated recyclables including cardboard, paper, glass, aluminium cans, and plastic bottles and jars (numbers 1 and 2). All materials must be clean, dry, and sorted before drop-off.

For a move, the recycling centre is particularly useful for:

  • Cardboard boxes and packing paper from the pack-out
  • Electronics: televisions, computers, and phones are accepted at $0.50 per pound (residents pay what they can toward the cost)
  • Hazardous items including batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and bear spray, accepted during business hours
  • Household hazardous waste: accepted by appointment only from April through October on the first and third Tuesday of each month
  • Document shredding: available on-site at 25 cents per pound, no appointment needed

Teton Habitat ReStore accepts furniture, appliances, and building materials — proceeds support affordable housing in Teton County.

If you are looking for a local spot to grab a bite after a long move day, Yeah Buddy Pizza! is a Jackson Hole favorite.

Community Drop-Off Sites

If the recycling centre is out of the way, Teton County operates seven community drop-off sites across the valley with bins available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Locations include the Rodeo Grounds (corner of Snow King Ave and Flat Creek Dr), the Recreation Centre parking lot on East Gill Ave, and the Albertsons car park. Check the Teton County website for the full list of sites and current accepted materials.

What Not to Recycle

A few common items that cause problems at the recycling centre: paperboard (cereal boxes, egg cartons) is not accepted in cardboard bins. Plastic bags are accepted only if they are stretchy and light-coloured or clear, like grocery bags. Contaminated or mixed loads can end up in the landfill, so it is worth a quick check on the Teton County website before you drop anything off.

Teton County Trash Transfer Station

The Teton County Trash Transfer Station is located at Horsethief Canyon, approximately four to five miles south of High School Road on Highway 89. For items that cannot be donated, consigned, or recycled, this is the route for responsible disposal.

Check the current fee schedule and accepted materials on the Teton County website before you go. Some categories of waste carry fees, and there are specific rules about what can be dropped off. Bringing materials that are not accepted means a wasted trip.

When to Do This

The earlier you work through this before moving day, the better. Consignment takes time: you need to get pieces to the store or listed before your move date arrives. Donation pickups with the ReStore need to be booked in advance. Recycling and transfer station runs are easier to fit in when they are planned rather than squeezed into the final days.

A useful approach is to go room by room, four to six weeks before the move, and sort into three categories: coming with you, donating or consigning, and disposing. Dealing with each category on its own terms is much more manageable than trying to sort and move everything at once in the final week.

Once you have worked through what is staying behind, We Lift Things handles the rest. We move homes across Jackson Hole and Teton County, and can assist with removal of items not covered by the options above. Call us or request a quote and we can walk you through what your move involves.
